Pilot Hurt after El Cajon Plane Crash near Interstate 8 and Greenfield Drive

EL CAJON, CA (August 23, 2022) — A pilot suffered injuries following a plane crash near Interstate 8 and Greenfield Drive on Thursday morning, August 18.

The small aircraft crashed about five miles east of Gillespie Field before it came to a rest alongside a freeway overpass, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. Official received the initial report of the crash at around 10:35 a.m.

Authorities identified the plane involved as a Cessna 195, operated by a 65-year-old man of San Diego, which had no passengers on board.

Authorities said the pilot sustained major injuries from the crash. Medical personnel transported him to the Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Officials did not report any other injuries. However, the small aircraft came into contact with a white Hyundai SUV before landing.

The Hyundai had two occupants — driver Carrie Zub from Alpine and her pet dog. Both were unharmed, an official said.

The incident is under investigation, according to the CHP and officials of the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.

The influence of alcohol or drugs did not appear as a factor in the crash, a CHP officer stated.
