Phillip Mayfield Killed and Demmit Gray Hospitalized after Pickup Truck Crash on Highway 67 near Highway 503

 
COLEMAN, TX (December 5, 2023) — A San Antonio man identified as 48-year-old Phillip Scott Mayfield died in a crash on Tuesday, November 21.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened at about 6 a.m. Tuesday on US Highway 67.
 
Mayfield drove his pickup truck west on Highway 67. At the same time, 57-year-old Demmit Clayborne Gray of Franklin drove a semi-truck pulling a trailer on Highway 67.
 
DPS said Mayfield’s pickup truck went on the wrong side of the road in a no-passing zone. After that, it struck Gray’s vehicle.
 
Justice of the Peace Vickie Holder then pronounced Mayfield dead at the scene. The DPS report said it’s not yet known whether he wore a seatbelt during the crash.
 
Paramedics rushed Gray by ambulance to Coleman Medical Center with minor injuries. The report said he was in stable condition.
 
The Coleman County Sheriff’s Office closed Highway 67 between Highway 206 and FM 503 during the clearing operation.
