LUBBOCK, TX (December 20, 2023) — A man identified as 24-year-old Phillip Lopez died in a pedestrian crash on Thursday, December 7.
 
According to Lubbock police, officers responded to the 8600 block of University Avenue for reports of a pedestrian crash shortly before 6:45 a.m.
 
Police say Lopez stepped out into oncoming traffic. Then, a pick-up truck driven by 67-year-old Fernando Rodriguez moving south on University Avenue struck him. After that, another pickup truck heading south struck Lopez a second time.
 
When they arrived, officers discovered Lopez on the road with serious injuries.
 
The second pick-up truck fled the scene after the incident. Investigators continue to work to identify the driver.
