Madi Buchanan, Layni Potter Identified in Fatal Baird Crash
BAIRD, TX (May 16, 2024) – Officials identified 18-year-old Layni Potter and 18-year-old Madi Buchanan who died in a crash on Peyton Street on May 5.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at West 3rd Street around 2:10 AM. Based on a report, a Kia Spectra was traveling south on Peyton Street before the crash.
At the same time, a Chevrolet truck was approaching the intersection on West 3rd Street. Due to unknown reasons, the Kia did not yield at a stop sign and crashed with the Chevy. The impact ejected the victims and a 16-year-old man from the Kia.
As a result, Potter, Buchanan, and the teen suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
Crews transported the Kia driver to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A fourth passenger was in stable condition. The driver of the truck was treated by paramedics on the scene.
Police arrested one of the drivers on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
