Oscar Rios-Rugama Struck and Killed by DUI Driver on South Decatur Boulevard in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, NV (May 17, 2023) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identified 55-year-old Oscar Rios-Rugama who died in a pedestrian accident on South Decatur Boulevard on May 12.
According to the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol, the collision happened near West Pioneer Avenue shortly after 7:00 PM. Based on a report, 27-year-old Jovany Pouncil was driving a 2012 Volkswagen CC recklessly on the road prior to the crash.
Due to unknown reasons, he veered right in a lane change and lost control. The vehicle went onto the sidewalk, struck several utility poles and struck Rios-Rugama.
As a result, Rios-Rugama suffered grave injuries and died at University Medical Center.
Crews transported Pouncil and his passenger to the same hospital with minor injuries.
Pouncil is now facing charges of DUI resulting in death and reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.
