Fatal Rear-End Car Accident on Interstate 17 in Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ (March 13, 2023) — A person died while two other people sustained injuries after a crash on Interstate 17 at Thomas Road on Thursday night, March 2.
The fatal incident occurred at around 10:00 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Authorities did not disclose the details leading up to the collision.
However, police confirmed that an Acura crashed into the rear-end of a Kia.
Respondents extricated an unidentified driver from the Kia, but the victim later died at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Acura and another motorist suffered non-life-threatening and minor injuries, respectively.
Both patients received transportation to a hospital for treatment.
Following preliminary investigation, officials suspect that speed and impairment appeared as contributing factors in the accident.
To that end, the driver of the Acura is set to face charges once they are released from the hospital.
The case is still under investigation. No other information is available at this time.
