CHANDLER, AZ (December 18, 2023) – The Gila River Police Department confirmed that one person died in a crash on Riggs Road on December 6.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Highway 347 around 3:00 PM. Based on the report, a van carrying student-athletes was traveling near the intersection at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, the van collided with the victim’s car.
 
As a result, the victim sustained grave injuries and died in the incident. Officials did not yet release the victim’s name, pending kin notification.
 
Several student-athletes on the bus had injuries and were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
