One Dead, Another Hurt in Wrong-Way Accident on Highway 167
RENTON, WA (February 27, 2025) — One person suffered fatal injuries in a wrong-way accident on Highway 167 on Tuesday, February 18.
According to Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes of Highway 167, just south of 405 Freeway.
Authorities reported that the driver traveled in the wrong direction. After that, it collided head-on with a semi-truck.
The wrong-way driver died at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics brought the semi-truck driver with minor injuries to Harborview Medical Center.
Due to the crash, officers blocked all northbound lanes for several hours. It caused a significant traffic backup that stretched approximately seven miles to Highway 516 in Kent.
The Washington State Department of Transportation advised drivers to take alternate routes to avoid delays.
WSDOT confirmed that all lanes reopened at around 8:09 a.m. and normal traffic flow had resumed.
The WSP continues to investigate the circumstances leading to the crash.
