MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX (December 19, 2022) — Oliver James Shaw and Lucas Paul Wegener died following a crash on Interstate 45 late Tuesday night, December 6.

The fatal collision occurred at about 11:16 p.m. north of Shenandoah, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. It involved five vehicles — a Suzuki motorcycle, a 2000 Lexus, a Chevrolet Malibu, an Audi A4 and a Toyota Corolla.

Authorities said the Suzuki, driven by the 27-year-old Shaw, traveled on I-45 at a high rate of speed when it collided with a Lexus, which had entered a private road near Texas 242.

The force of impact propelled Shaw and his motorcycle to the northbound main lanes on the freeway, where the Malibu and Audi pulled up in an attempt to help. Wegener – the driver of the Malibu – even stepped out to render aid.

The Corolla, which headed north, then crashed into the motorcycle, Malibu and Audi while hitting Wegener in the process.

Both Shaw and Wegener died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Corolla sustained undisclosed injuries and received treatment at the Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.

The cause and factors surrounding the incident remain under investigation. However, no additional information is available at this time.
