Ezekiel Ortega Dies in Jones County Pedestrian Accident

 
HAWLEY, TX (December 19, 2022) – 31-year-old Ezekiel Ortega died following a pedestrian crash on US Highway 83 on Tuesday evening, December 6.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal accident took place just after 6:00 p.m., a mile north of Hawley. Preliminary reports stated that Ortega got out of a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the highway for reasons unknown.

While walking on the highway, a 2017 Kenworth truck/tractor driven by Owen O’Kelly struck Ortega.

Authorities stated that O’Kelly attempted to avoid Ortega – who was walking in the traffic lane – but failed to do so since another vehicle was in the next lane.

Ortega died at the scene, police said.

O’Kelly did not sustain any injuries.

No further details are available. However, police are conduction an investigation into the accident at this time.
