Oliver Gongora Dies after Denver Police Pursuit Accident on Dayton Street

 
DENVER, CO (March 28, 2024) — A 24-year-old Nicaraguan identified as Oliver Gongora died in a pursuit crash on Sunday, March 17.
 
The fatal crash began at around 7:00 p.m. when a 24-year-old Aurora resident dialed 911. He reported that he was the victim of an armed carjacking.
 
Several minutes later, officers found the stolen vehicle speeding near the intersection of Dallas Street and East 25th Avenue. Officers began chasing the stolen car with sirens and lights. However, the driver did not stop.
 
The chase stopped when the suspect struck a speed bump in the 1900 block of Dayton Street. After that, he lost control and collided with several vehicles, including one with Gongora in it.
 
Gongora died at the scene. Family and friends said he is originally from Nicaragua. His loved ones set up a GoFundMe to help bring his body home to Nicaragua.
 
After the crash, police took the 17-year-old into custody. They then transported him to a hospital where he received treatment overnight. On Monday, they arrested him and then held him at a juvenile detention facility in Adams County.
 
The teen faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and vehicular eluding causing death. However, officers said his name would not be available due to his age.
