AVON, CO (November 19, 2024) — Officer Trevor Roszczewski sustained injuries after a DUI driver hit his vehicle on Monday, November 4.
 
According to the Avon Police Department, Officer Roszczewski graduated from his field training program after a year. Then he began his first solo patrol on Monday. However, five hours later, at about 11:00 p.m. he was in a collision.
 
The police department said Roszczewski conducted a traffic stop on East Beaver Creek Boulevard between the 70 Freeway and Highway 6.
 
Reports said Roszczewski returned to his patrol car parked with emergency lights on. He was about to run a driver’s license when a black BMW moving eastbound crashed into the back left corner of the patrol vehicle. Then it hit the front right panel, Avon police said.
 
The department said Roszczewski hit his head. Then paramedics brought him to a local hospital for further evaluation. He has been medically cleared and is now in recovery.
 
The Colorado State Patrol and Eagle County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation. They arrested the other driver only identified as a 20-year-old man. He now faces charges of DUI and careless driving.
