Nicholas Hough and Bailey Canales Identified in Injury Crash on Highway 97 in Pateros
PATEROS, WA (February 26, 2025) – Authorities identified 22-year-old Nicholas Hough and 20-year-old Bailey R. Canales who suffered injuries in a crash on Highway 97 on February 19.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at milepost 248. Based on a report, Hough was driving a 2012 Ford Focus with Canales when their vehicle struck slush on the road.
Subsequently, the vehicle rotated and collided with a northbound 2025 Freightliner Cascadia truck. The Ford then hit a guardrail. Police said both vehicles had severe damage and ended up blocking the highway in both directions.
As a result, both Hough and Canales were hurt in the incident. Crews transported them to Three Rivers Hospital for medical attention. A toddler, Preston Hough, was also in the vehicle but was not hurt.
The driver of the truck, 37-year-old Rene Martin from East Wenatchee, did not sustain any injuries.
Authorities cited excessive speed for conditions as the primary cause of the crash.
