Nathan Jones, Trenton Umberger, and Kathi Wallace Killed after Jeep Accident in Palisade

 
PALISADE, CO (September 12, 2024)Nathan Jones and two others died following an accident on Wednesday, September 4.
 
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident occurred at about 10:40 a.m. on westbound Highway 6 near milepost 40.
 
Troopers said the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee went off the road and struck two Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) employees doing maintenance work on the side of the highway. After that, the Jeep crashed into the parked CDOT vehicle and overturned.
 
Both workers died in the incident. Emergency responders also pronounced a passenger in the Jeep dead at the scene.
 
On Thursday, the Mesa County coroner’s office released the names of the deceased. They identified the workers as 23-year-old Nathan Jones and 43-year-old Trenton Umberger, both from Grand Junction. They also identified the Jeep passenger as 67-year-old Kathi Wallace of Mesa County.
 
The driver, only identified as Wallace’s husband, was the only person who survived the crash. Paramedics later brought him to the hospital with minor injuries.
 
Troopers said they are still determining what caused the accident. They suspect impairment is a factor at this time.
 
The Mesa County District Attorney’s Office continues to evaluate potential criminal charges.
