Driver of Smuggling Vehicle Miguel Vasquez Arrested in Laredo Accident
LAREDO, TX (August 22, 2024) – Authorities arrested 42-year-old Miguel Angel Vasquez after an accident on Modern Lane on August 3.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Markley Avenue. Based on a report, an information was out that Vasquez was driving a Nissan Pathfinder with migrants.
A trooper attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but it accelerated and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The Nissan then caught fire about 6 minutes later due to undercarriage damage. After that, authorities said Vasquez and four passengers exited the vehicle near Riverside Drive and Island Street.
It was not clear if there were injuries in the incident.
Troopers caught up to the suspects and arrested Vasquez on four felony counts of smuggling of persons and other charges.
U.S. Border Patrol agents took custody of four migrants.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
