PASADENA, TX (August 22, 2024) — A 73-year-old man identified as Erasmo Perez died in a hit-and-run on Thursday, August 8.
 
The accident happened shortly before 6:09 a.m. at 100 Southmore Avenue, just east of Shaver Street.
 
The Pasadena Police Department said that Perez operated his motorized wheelchair on the way for his daily McDonald’s breakfast inside a Wal-Mart in the area. Then a dark-colored pickup truck hit him while he was in a crosswalk.
 
Emergency responders transported Perez to a hospital where he died.
 
Family members said in the GoFundMe that the driver who fled the scene, dragged Perez for around 200 feet. Then the driver left him in front of the Wal-Mart parking lot.
 
Perez’s son said that his father’s wheelchair was discovered tossed in a dumpster after being shattered into pieces.
 
Authorities continue to search for the suspect driver and vehicle. They urge anyone with information to call the Pasadena Police Department at 731-540-5879.
