Michael Sanchez Identified after Oceanside DUI Crash on Douglas Drive
OCEANSIDE, CA (March 28, 2023) – 52-year-old Michael Sanchez was killed and a 52-year-old driver was arrested for an alleged DUI crash on Douglas Drive, March 14.
According to the Oceanside Police Department, the fatal collision occurred around 5:00 p.m. near Madra Lane.
Based on reports, Sanchez was riding his bike either on the sidewalk or in a bike lane when an on-coming vehicle struck him.
Due to the impact, the cyclist succumbed to his injuries and died. He was later identified as Sanchez.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
The driver was accused of trying to leave the scene. He is now facing charges of suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Authorities conducted a sobriety test. As a result, the involved driver admitted that he was under the influence of heroin during the accident.
At this point, the southbound lanes of Douglas Drive were closed. It reopened soon after.
