George Arness Hit by Patrol Car, Killed in La Marque Car Crash

 
LA MARQUE, TX (March 28, 2023) – 72-year-old George Arness died in a crash involving Texas City Officer Joseph Waggoner on FM 1764 and FM 2004 on March 18.

According to the Texas City police, the accident happened around 10:00 p.m. near Interstate 45.

Based on reports, Officer Waggoner was on his way to assist a burglary case and was tasked to provide drone air to search for four suspects. As he was traveling through the intersection, he crashed into a Honda Fit.

Soon after, the driver – who was identified as Arness – was transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland Medical Center. However, he died in the emergency room.

Responders transported his passenger to the trauma center at UTMB Health John Sealy Hospital with unknown injuries. They also transported the officer to the hospital with minor injuries.

It is still not known whether the officer had his lights or sirens on.

Both the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office will conduct the investigation.
