Mary Centeno Dies After Being Struck by Car on Pacific Coast Highway

VENTURA, CA (August 18, 2022) — 68-year-old Mary Centeno died after being hit by a vehicle in a pedestrian accident on Pacific Coast Highway on Wednesday morning, August 10.

The fatal incident occurred on the highway near Solimar Beach, according to the authorities who received reports of the accident around 9:20 a.m.

Based on the investigation of the California Highway Patrol, a 61-year-old man of Oak View was driving a 2003 GMC 3500 dually pickup truck south on the highway. That is when the driver drove onto the southbound shoulder, where Centeno was walking.

The truck hit Centeno from behind. Bystanders rendered aid to the female victim and performed CPR while awaiting the Ventura County Fire Department units.

However, officials later confirmed that Centeno died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene. However, he was then arrested on suspicion of being impaired while driving following an assessment from authorities.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call Officer D. Matthews at the CHP’s Ventura office at 805-662-2640.
