Marianna Pickens-Quiroz, Christopher Vanderslice Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 36 [Callahan County, TX]

Christopher Vanderslice and Marianna Pickens-Quiroz Identified in Fatal Crash in Callahan County

 
CALLAHAN COUNTY, TX (March 22, 2024) – Officials identified 26-year-old Marianna Pickens-Quiroz and 26-year-old Christopher Vanderslice who died in a crash on Highway 36 on March 10.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened about 8 miles southwest of Eula at approximately 2:30 PM. Based on a report, Pickens-Quiroz was driving a Nissan Versa heading east on Highway 36 with Vanderslice as her passenger.
 
She was in front of 35-year-old Roberta Gooch who was driving a Honda CRV. At the same time, 19-year-old Theophilus Heryanto was driving a BMW heading west on Highway 36 behind 31-year-old Brandon Runnels who was driving a pickup truck.
 
Due to unknown reasons, Heryanto tried to pass Runnels but was traveling at a high rate of speed and crashed into Pickens-Quiroz head-on.
 
As a result, Pickens-Quiroz and Vanderslice sustained grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
Heryanto was taken to Hendrick North Hospital with serious injuries.
 
As of now, the officers are investigating the crash. In addition, no other details are available.
