MIDLAND, TX (December 11, 2024) — A 45-year-old man, Manuel De Jesus Sanchez Velasco, of Fort Bend, died in a crash on Sunday, December 1.
 
According to a Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred on Highway 349 near FM 1213 at around 8:20 p.m.
 
Texas DPS said a 2015 Freightliner with a trailer driven by 40-year-old Jorge Luis Marquez, of Horizon City, traveled northbound on Highway 349. It approached the intersection of FM 1213.
 
At the same time, a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Velasco moved west on FM 1213. He then disregarded the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 349.
 
The semi hit the Chevrolet and Velasco died on the scene. Meanwhile, emergency responders brought Marquez to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
 
Both drivers wore their seatbelts.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the crash. However, there is no further information available.
