Fatal Yoakum County Crash on Highway 380; Manuel Ortega Identified

 
YOAKUM COUNTY, TX (December 19, 2022) – 40-year-old Manuel Rafael Ortega died while his passenger 37-year-old Jose Antonio Perez Ramirez sustained injuries in a single-vehicle crash on US Highway 380 at about 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the accident took place eight miles west of Plains. Initial investigation revealed that Ortega drove a 2014 International Dura Star Truck westbound on Highway 380 when he lost control on the wet road.

This caused the truck to travel on the eastbound lane and entered the south ditch before rolling and coming to a rest.

Ortega died from the accident, police said. However, it remains unknown if he died at the scene or on the way to the hospital.

Meanwhile, medics transported Ramirez to Yoakum County Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
