Fatal Galveston Pedestrian Accident on 23rd Street and Avenue J

 
GALVESTON, TX (July 27, 2023) — A man in a wheelchair died in a pedestrian accident on 23rd Street and Broadway Avenue J on Sunday, July 23.
 
According to the Galveston Police Department, the crash took place at the intersection at about 12:08 a.m.
 
Police said witnesses told them a white Hyundai sedan traveled westbound through the intersection. Then the man seated in a wheelchair, entered the intersection and tried to cross in a northbound direction. The sedan also entered the intersection and hit the man.
 
The Galveston Fire Department, together with Galveston EMS, responded to the scene. They transported the man to UTMB Health at Galveston, where he later succumbed to injuries and died.
 
The identity of the pedestrian is not yet available pending notification of loved ones.
 
The driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene. Authorities do not believe intoxication is a factor in the crash.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
