Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Vehicle While Fleeing Traffic Stop on 10 Freeway in Cochise County

 
COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (April 29, 2024) – The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a man who was trying to flee a traffic stop died in a pedestrian accident on 10 Freeway on April 12.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened around 9:45 PM. Based on a report, a deputy was trying to conduct a traffic stop on an SUV for possible driving under the influence.
 
The SUV did not pull over and drove another 15 miles. Subsequently, the vehicle pulled over and several people fled the vehicle. The victim who was one of those fleeing was then hit by a semi-truck while attempting to cross eastbound traffic.
 
As a result, the victim suffered grave injuries and died at the scene. Officers did not yet release his name, pending kin notification.
 
The U.S. Border Patrol located and took the companions of the victim into custody. It was not clear if there were suspects who were still at large.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
