Fatal Road Rage Accident on E-470 near 25 Freeway in Thornton
THORNTON, CO (April 16, 2024) — A man died and another sustained injuries in a road rage accident on E-470 on Monday, April 8.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash occurred at around 5:45 a.m. on the southbound 25 Freeway on-ramp to E-470.
Witnesses told CSP that the driver of a Toyota 4Runner engaged in aggressive behaviors with several vehicles on the 25 Freeway. Then he exited at E-470. On the off-ramp, the driver proceeded to engage in high-speed and aggressive driving with a white sedan.
After that, the 25-year-old male driver of the 4Runner lost control and the vehicle rolled over. His vehicle came to a stop in the southbound lanes of E-470. Then a 50-year-old man in a Toyota Tacoma crashed into the 4Runner.
Emergency responders brought both drivers to the hospital. The 50-year-old died from sustained injuries. The 24-year-old driver remains in the hospital for treatment.
Authorities closed all lanes of eastbound E-470 Sheridan Parkway and 25 Freeway. They reopened the road at around 9:30 a.m.
Crews from Colorado State Patrol and Broomfield Police continue to investigate the accident. As a result, they urge anyone with information on this crash including the identity of the driver of the white sedan to contact CSP at 303-239-4522.
