50-Year-Old Man Killed, Teen and Woman Hospitalized after Stolen Vehicle Accident on Highway 7
SPANAWAY, WA (November 30, 2023) — A man died and two others suffered injuries in a stolen vehicle crash on Highway 7 on Sunday, November 26.
According to Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred at about 2:55 a.m. on Highway 7 at 211th Street Court East.
Investigators said the 50-year-old Spanaway driver and his 50-year-old passenger traveled south on Highway 7. At the same time, a 14-year-old driving a stolen vehicle headed in the same direction. Troopers said the Spanaway man tried to make a U-turn across all lanes of traffic. Then the speeding teen collided with him.
The Spanaway man died at the scene. Paramedics rushed his female passenger to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.
The teen driver also sustained serious injuries. Medics also transported him to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma.
An accident report obtained by a local news source said all parties involved did not wear their seatbelts. In addition, they also said the cars involved were a red 2021 Kia Sportage and a silver 1999 Toyota Camry.
Authorities closed the road for more than five hours.
Officials continue to investigate the crash.
