19-Year-Old Killed after Elk Grove Car Accident on 5 Freeway

 
ELK GROVE, CA (January 4, 2024) — A 19-year-old Antioch man died in a speeding crash on 5 Freeway on Saturday, December 2.
 
According to a California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. on 5 Freeway, south of Hood Franklin Road.
 
CHP’s initial investigation discovered that the 19-year-old drove at a high rate of speeding in an Infiniti. Then his vehicle collided into the back of a Ford van.
 
The impact of the collision pushed the van into the shoulder. At the same, the Infiniti struck the center divider. After that, it overturned and ejected the driver.
 
The Infiniti driver died from sustained injuries. Paramedics transported his passenger to the hospital for treatment of sustained major injuries.
 
The driver of the van was not hurt.
 
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved in the incident.
 
CHP said they are still investigating and have not yet determined if impairment was a factor in the crash.
