Pilots Lyndsay Evans, Serena Wileman Dead in Jet Crash near Mount Rainier

 
NAVAL AIR STATION WHIDBEY ISLAND, WA (November 6, 2024) — Lt. Cmdr. Lyndsay Evans and Lt. Serena Wileman died in a jet crash on October 15.
 
The U.S. Navy said the pilots were in an EA-18G Growler jet that crashed into a mountainside east of Mount Rainier. They added that it occurred on Tuesday afternoon during a routine training flight.
 
Officials searched for the aircraft several days before they concluded that both pilots had died in the crash. On Sunday, October 20, the Navy declared both aviators dead. After that, they shifted the rescue efforts to recovery operations.
 
On October 21, they released the pilots’ identities as Lt. Cmdr. Lyndsay P. Evans and Lt. Serena N. Wileman. Evans was a naval flight officer. Meanwhile, Wileman was a naval aviator. Both were 31 years old and California residents.
 
In a social media post by the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, they said Evans and Wileman were two highly skilled, combat-decorated aviators.
