Lowell Mase Arrested for DUI after Fatally Hitting Pedestrian on 5 Freeway in Bellingham
BELLINGHAM, WA (October 10, 2022) – Police arrested 68-year-old Lowell Foster Mase following a fatal pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway on October 7.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened near Slater Road around 8:45 AM.
Based on a report, Mase was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger southbound on the freeway at the time of the crash. Due to unknown reasons, he began driving on the right shoulder and struck a pedestrian.
As a result, WSP confirmed that the pedestrian died in the incident. Officials did not yet release the victim’s name, pending kin notification.
Police later arrested Wase on suspicion of vehicular homicide while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or any drug and while driving in a reckless manner.
