Kaila Riojas Killed, Landon Newcomb Involved in Fatal Crash on 19th Street

LUBBOCK, TX (October 11, 2022) – 18-year-old Kaila Riojas was fatally injured after a pickup truck hit her on 19th Street on Sunday.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, the accident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on the 4200 block of 19th Street.

Riojas was heading south on a moped from north of the street on her scooter. 21-year-old Landon Newcomb was then driving a westbound pickup truck when the accident happened.

The victim was crossing the street when the pickup struck her on the moped.

Riojas suffered from severe injuries and later died in the UMC.

The driver did not sustain injuries from the crash, police say.

Further details were not disclosed as of now. However, an investigation is ongoing as police collect evidence.
