Police Identify 6 Killed in Tacoma Car Crash on Highway 509

 
TACOMA, WA (July 26, 2023) – The Washington State Department of Transportation identified the six people who died in a car accident on Highway 509 on July 16.
 
Washington State Patrol identified 19-year-old Lisa Esparza from Phoenix; 19-year-old Cerra Corner from Phoenix; 22-year-old Javan Runnels from Phoenix; Felix Begay and Erick Tsosie, both 25 and from Kayenta, Ariz.; and 25-year-old Calsie Sockyma from Tuba City, Ariz., as the people killed in the crash. All were riding in a Kia Forte hatchback.
 
At around 11:15 AM near Alexander Avenue, the driver of a BMW SUV with a passenger T-boned the Kia, which was carrying seven people. Officers said one of the drivers did not stop at a red light and caused the crash.
 
All six who died were in the Kia.
 
A seventh passenger in the Kia suffered critical injuries. The male driver and the female passenger in the BMW also sustained injuries.
 
Loved ones have made GoFundMe accounts for Esparza, Corner, Runnels, Begay, Tsosie, and Sockyma to help with funeral costs and other expenses.
 
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
