93-Year-Old World War II Army Veteran Lewis Fisher Killed in Sylmar Hit-and-Run

SYLMAR, CA (May 3, 2023) — A 93-year-old army veteran identified as Lewis Earl Fisher of Arleta died in a hit-and-run on 5 Freeway on March 31.

According to California Highway Patrol, the accident happened just south of the Highway 14 junction at around 5:05 a.m.

His granddaughter, Erika Dinsmore, said Fisher traveled to his favorite weekend getaway spot in Las Vegas. Then another driver made an unsafe lane change.

The other vehicle sideswiped Fisher’s 2005 white Toyota Camry. The impact pushed Fisher’s vehicle toward a 10-foot-wide concrete median, where he ultimately crashed. He suffered major injuries.

Fisher died from those injuries on April 13 at Olive View Medical Center.

Now, CHP officers said they need help from the public to move forward in their investigation.

A good Samaritan helped Fisher immediately after the incident. However, the witness wasn’t able to positively identify the suspect vehicle.

CHP urges anyone with information or dash camera video of the crash to contact the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall area office at 661-600-1600.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lewis Fisher.
