Layni Potter, Madi Buchana, and Ryan Bilby Killed in Baird DUI Accident

 
BAIRD, TX (May 22, 2024) — Layni Potter, Madi Buchanan, and Ryan Bilby died in a DUI accident on Sunday, May 5.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at Peyton Street and West 3rd Street.
 
The initial investigation from DPS determined a passenger car driven by 19-year-old James May, of Baird, traveled south on Peyton Street. Then it stopped at a stop sign at Peyton Street and West 3rd Street.
 
At the same time, a pickup truck driven by 35-year-old Ashlie Haynes, of Clyde, traveled west on West 3rd Street approaching Peyton Street.
 
DPS said May failed to yield the right of way to Haynes. She continued driving south into the intersection of Peyton and West 3rd. The impact ejected three passengers from May’s vehicle in the crash.
 
Justice of the Peace Steve Odom pronounced 18-year-old Layni Potter, 18-year-old Madi Buchanan, and 16-year-old Ryan Bilby dead at the scene.
 
Paramedics brought Mays to Hendrick Medical Center. She received treatment and was then released. They also brought one of May’s passengers, 19-year-old Dakota Kitchens, of Baird, to the hospital in stable condition.
 
Haynes received treatment at the scene.
 
Investigators found out that Haynes was under the influence at the time of the accident. They arrested and then booked her into the Callahan County Jail.
