TOPPENISH, WA (March 10, 2023) – Officers identified 47-year-old Lauro Barrios of Wapato as the victim who died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 97 on March 7.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at Highway 22 around 5:30 AM. Based on a report, Barrios was running on the road prior to the crash.
 
At the same time, a car was traveling north on the highway near the intersection. Due to unknown reasons, the car struck Barrios.
 
As a result, the victim suffered grave injuries. He died on the way to the hospital.
 
Crews closed the northbound lanes of 97 while rescue and clearing operations took place.
