Kevin Ortiz Killed after Shallowater Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 84
SHALLOWATER, TX (July 19, 2024) — A 64-year-old Bovina man identified as Kevin Ortiz died in a semi-truck crash on Friday, July 5.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal incident occurred on Highway 84 near County Road 1400 at about 5:00 a.m.
Texas DPS said 41-year-old Salem Mohamed drove a truck tractor pulling a semi-trailer south on Highway 84. At the same time, Ortiz drove southbound on Highway 84. Then Mohamed drove into the center median, crossed onto southbound lanes of the highway, and hit Ortiz.
Responding officers arrived at the scene. Then they pronounced Ortiz dead due to the injuries he sustained in the accident.
According to a DPS report, Ortiz and Mohamed wore seatbelts when the crash occurred. In addition, they said weather and road conditions were clear and dry.
There are no reports if speed and intoxication were factors in the incident.
Officials continue to investigate the crash.
