Katheline Washburn Dead in Motorcycle Accident on Highway 167 in Auburn

AUBURN, WA (May 3, 2023) — A Puyallup woman identified as 51-year-old Katheline Washburn died in a motorcycle crash on Thursday, April 27.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the fatal incident happened at Highway 167 near Highway 18.

WSP said Washburn rode her motorcycle north of the interchange at around 6:10 p.m. when she slowed for traffic. Then a man driving behind her in a Toyota Tacoma pickup, a 39-year-old Puyallup resident, did not slow down and hit Washburn.

Troopers said the pickup driver attempted to stop. He veered into an adjacent lane, where his car came to a stop. The incident reportedly left the motorcyclist under the pickup.

According to troopers, emergency responders pronounced Washburn dead at the scene. Washburn was wearing a helmet when the collision occurred, according to police.

The pickup driver did not sustain any injuries.

Troopers said the collision happened because of speed, driver inattention, and following too closely. There are pending charges against the driver.

According to the release, troopers don’t believe intoxication was a factor in the crash.
