Passenger Karen Cooper Identified in Fatal San Diego Accident on Highway 52

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 6, 2023) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified 72-year-old Karen Lee Cooper of La Jolla who died in an accident on May 26.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near 805 Freeway. Based on a report, Cooper was in the front passenger seat of a Mercedes that was on the road at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, a Chevrolet pickup truck carrying a one-ton stake bed overturned in the lanes. Then, the concrete bags from the truck fell to the eastbound lanes and one bag struck the windshield of the Mercedes.
 
As a result, Cooper suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. The medical examiner’s office determined her cause of death was due to blunt force injuries.
 
The driver of the Mercedes and the truck driver were not hurt in the incident.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
