MARYSVILLE, CA (January 31, 2023) – The teenage girl who was killed in a hit-and-run in Marysville on January 14 has been identified.

According to Marysville Police, the fatal hit-and-run happened at 7:16 p.m. at the 1900 block of B Street. Based on reports, a vehicle struck a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl.

However, the driver – identified as 23-year-old Marysville resident Justin Preston – ran from the scene without rendering aid.

Responders transported both victims to Adventist Rideout Hospital later on.

Police confirmed that the 13-year-old died from sustained injuries. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office officially identified her as Jastelyn Hernandez Garcia, an Olivehurst resident.

The boy was already released from the hospital after receiving treatment.

Investigators were able to identify Preston’s vehicle and arrest him. After that, Preston was booked into jail and is facing a felony count of hit-and-run resulting in death. His bond was set at $100,000.

At this point, alcohol and drugs were ruled out. However, further investigation continued.
