Juan Rios Killed, Kenny Alvarez Arrested in Houston Hit-and-Run
HOUSTON, TX (January 31, 2023) – 43-year-old Juan Rios died while pushing a shopping cart after a driver struck him on East Freeway Service Road on Monday evening, January 9.
According to the Harris County Sheriff, the fatal crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. at the 15400 block of East Freeway Service Road.
Initial investigation revealed that Rios was pushing a shopping cart from the north to south roadway. Then, a Toyota Tacoma – driven by Kenny Alvarez – struck Rios.
Rios died at the scene, police said.
Alvarez fled the scene without providing aid to the victim. Later on, Alvarez informed the police department of the crash. Authorities charged the driver with failure to stop and render aid with serious bodily injury resulting in death.
