Jorge Lopez Identified in Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway in Federal Way

FEDERAL WAY, WA (July 17, 2023) – Officers identified 25-year-old Jorge Salas Lopez of Seattle as one of the three people who died in a car crash on 5 Freeway on July 9.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened near the South 336th Street overpass around 3:43 AM. Based on a report, Lopez was driving a silver Acura Integra northbound at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.

As he approached the overpass, a Chevy truck attempted to swerve onto the right shoulder to avoid a collision. Then, the Acura struck the truck, causing both vehicles to come to rest on the right shoulder of the freeway.

As a result, Lopez and his two passengers, a 27-year-old Federal Way man and a 25-year-old Seattle man, died in the accident.

The driver of the truck, a 31-year-old Auburn man, was not hurt.

At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
