Johnny Lucero Identified in Fatal DUI Crash on 10 Freeway in Benson

 
BENSON, AZ (December 5, 2023) – Officials identified 60-year-old Johnny Lucero who died in a DUI crash on 10 Freeway on November 24.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near milepost 304. Based on the report, 21-year-old Jose Avelardo Garcia-Arredondo of Phoenix was driving a vehicle eastbound on the freeway during the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, he crossed into the westbound lanes and rear-ended Lucero’s GMC Yukon.
 
As a result, Lucero suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
His passenger sustained serious injuries and a juvenile in Garcia-Arredondo’s vehicle was also hurt.
 
Officers arrested Garcia-Arredondo for second-degree murder, manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and aggravated DUI.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
