HIDALGO COUNTY, TX (December 5, 2023) – Police arrested 20-year-old Tania Flores and 17-year-old Jonathan Lopez, both from Mission, after a hit-and-run crash on December 1.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near Mile 5 Road at approximately 9:00 PM. Based on a report, a trooper’s unit, a Chevrolet Tahoe, was stationary at a stop sign facing southbound on Western Road before the crash.
 
At the same time, Flores and Lopez were heading southbound in a silver BMW passenger car. Due to unknown reasons, they disregarded a stop sign and crashed into the trooper’s unit.
 
As a result, the trooper in the car sustained injuries in the crash. EMS transported the officer to a local hospital for treatment.
 
Police charged Flores with intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury to a peace officer while Lopez was also with failure to stop and render aid with serious bodily injury.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
