Johnathan Holland and Addison Shepherd Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 79 and CR 469

 
RUSK COUNTY, TX (November 3, 2023) — A Henderson ISD recent graduate, 18-year-old Johnathan E. Holland, and 10-year-old Addison L. Shepherd, died in a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday, November 1.
 
According to Rusk County Office of Emergency Management, the three-vehicle collision took place at the intersection of Highway 79 and County Road 469.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s preliminary crash report, Holland moved east on Highway 79 in a Chevrolet pickup. Then she slowed down in an attempt to turn left.
 
At the same time, 36-year-old Brianne N. Shutter, of Henderson, drove a Jeep east on US 79. DPS said Shutter failed to control her speed. Then her vehicle hit the back of Holland’s truck.
 
The Jeep then crossed over into the westbound lane. Then it crashed with a Dodge pickup, driven by 36-year-old Carroll R. Higgins, 63, of Paducah, KY.
 
Paramedics pronounced Holland and a 10-year-old passenger, identified as Shepherd dead at the scene.
 
Shutter and a 13-year-old passenger identified as Hailey Grace Gadner sustained injuries. Paramedics them to hospitals in Tyler and Louisiana, respectively, for treatment.
 
Higgins was not hurt in the collision.
