PHOENIX, AZ (November 3, 2023) — A man identified as 93-year-old Eli Johnson died in a pedestrian accident on Wednesday, November 1.
 
According to the Phoenix police, the accident took place in the area of 28th Street and Thunderbird Road at about 5:30 a.m.
 
Investigators said that Johnson was in a marked crosswalk against a do-not-walk signal. Then an SUV headed eastbound on Thunderbird Road struck him.
 
When they arrived, they found two vehicles and Johnson with serious injuries. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital in critical condition where later died.
 
The driver remained at the scene and did not show any signs of intoxication.
 
Officials closed both directions of Thunderbird as detectives investigated what caused the crash.
