Suspected DUI Driver Joe Lopez Involved in Houston Accident
HOUSTON, TX (July 16, 2024) – Officials arrested 30-year-old Joe Angel Lopez of Houston following a DUI accident in the 10500 block of South Sam Houston Parkway on June 22.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at approximately 10:59 PM. Based on a report, Precinct 8 Deputy Atluri observed Lopez driving a white Chevrolet Camaro on the road.
The deputy said Lopez was speeding and making unsafe lane changes. He subsequently sideswiped another car. Lopez failed to stop and accelerated further, prompting the deputy to initiate a traffic stop.
Upon contact, the officer noticed a small child in the backseat and observed multiple signs of intoxication in Lopez. After administering the Standardized Field Sobriety Test, he determined that Lopez was unable to operate the vehicle safely.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges for felony Driving While Intoxicated with Child Under 15 Years of Age and Failure to Stop and Give Information. Officers transported Lopez to the Harris County Joint Processing Center, where his bond was set at $2,600 total.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
