Jessica Dettlaff Dies after Speeding Las Vegas Accident on Silverado Ranch Boulevard

 
LAS VEGAS, NV (March 7, 2024) — Authorities arrested Melissa Dettlaff after a DUI speeding crash that killed her sister Jessica Ann Dettlaff on Wednesday, February 21.
 
According to the Metro police, the crash took place on Silverado Ranch Boulevard near Bermuda Road in the early morning hours.
 
Court documents said the sisters together with Johnathan Gallagher were at a bar for some drinks. Then the trio left and after less than 15 minutes, the crash happened.
 
The Dettlaff sisters were in a maroon Mazda MX-5. At the same time, Gallagher drove an orange Camaro. A witness told authorities they were racing. Metro police said they moved at speeds of up to 90 mph.
 
The crash happened when Gallagher lost control of the Camaro. It then hit the right rear of the Mazda causing it to strike a tree and utility pole. At the same time, Gallagher’s Camaro hit a wall.
 
Following the crash, 26-year-old Jessica was unconscious and suffered a bleeding head. She died at University Medical Center.
 
Melissa and Gallagher suffered minor injuries. Gallagher passed field sobriety tests. However, 24-year-old Melissa smelled like alcohol and police had her blood drawn.
 
Gallagher faces charges of participating in a speed contest and felony reckless driving resulting in death. At the same time, authorities charged Melissa with reckless driving causing death, felony DUI causing death, and participating in a speed contest.
