Jeffrey Bennett Hospitalized, Jack Jessop Arrested after Hit-and-Run on Highway 27 at Milepost 75
FAIRFIELD, WA (May 18, 2023) — A bicyclist, 68-year-old Jeffrey M. Bennett from Spokane Valley, sustained injuries in a hit-and-run on Friday, May 12.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash took place on Highway 27 near milepost 75 at about 7:53 p.m.
WSP said a northbound vehicle on Highway 27 struck Bennett, who was riding his bicycle on the right shoulder of the road. After the crash, the driver left the scene. However, officers later found his vehicle in the ditch at Dishman Mica and Highway 27.
Bennett sustained injuries in the incident. Emergency responders rushed him to Sacred Heart for medical attention. Fortunately, he wore a helmet at the time of the incident.
Authorities identified the driver of the involved vehicle as 55-year-old Jack P. Jessop from Rockford, WA. They charged him with vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run.
Officers believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
The collision is still under investigation.
