Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Suspected DUI Driver on Highway 198 at Court Street in Visalia

 
VISALIA, CA (June 13, 2023) – Officers arrested 29-year-old James Martinez of Exeter following a fatal pedestrian accident on Highway 198 on June 4.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Court Street around 8:30 PM. Based on a report, Martinez was driving a vehicle eastbound on the highway at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, he hit a pedestrian. Initial reports said he left the scene after the accident.
 
As a result, the pedestrian suffered grave injuries. When officers arrived, they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
 
Martinez returned to the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
 
CHP said Martinez was not found at fault but they arrested him for DUI.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
