TOPPENISH, WA (December 23, 2024) — A 53-year-old Harrah man, James A. Kahama, died in a pedestrian accident on Tuesday, December 10.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, Kahama was walking on Highway 22 just west of Casey Road. Then three eastbound vehicles struck him at about 4:52 p.m.
 
After that, the first and third vehicles fled the scene. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Yovani Diaz-Martinez, of Toppenish, stopped his 2015 Toyota Corolla at the scene.
 
Chief Yakima County Deputy Coroner Marshall Slight said they identified Kahama through his fingerprints. He died from blunt-force injuries at the scene.
 
Troopers consider the first driver to be the suspect in this incident. Officers urge anyone with information on the case to call Yakima County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
