John Andel, James Duke Killed in Buna Car Accident

 
BUNA, TX (October 1, 2024) — 20-year-old James Duke, of Vidor, and 33-year-old John Andel, of Buna, died in a fiery accident on Thursday, September 19.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at about 11:40 p.m. on Highway 62 near County Road 806.
 
The initial investigation determined that Duke drove a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse south on Highway 62. At the same time, Andel drove a 2017 Ford F-150 north on the same highway.
 
Then, for unknown reasons, Duke’s Chevrolet crossed over into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into Andel’s Ford, resulting in a fire.
 
First responders arrived and pronounced both Duke and Andel dead at the scene. Justice of the Peace Steve Conner has ordered autopsies.
 
The DPS said the investigation of the incident is active and ongoing.
